Theology and gospel in Luke
With Mike Ovey
Monday-Wednesday, 12-14 July 2010
How can we touch people's hearts as well as reach their minds? If we don't do both, we can end up with a sentimentalised love that cannot command conviction, or a loveless truth that leaves us cold.
Luke's Gospel provides some of the most compelling and familiar stories of all, from the Good Samaritan to the shepherds in the fields, but it also penetrates our thoughts as it outlines its claims to historical truth and its ethical insights into the hearts of humans both then and now. But how does Luke join together these things that touch the heart and reach the mind? Because he does!
The goal of this short course by Mike Ovey, Principal of Oak Hill, is to explore the great themes Luke weaves together, to be moved and excited by the Jeus he makes known to us, and to be equipped to bring this Jesus to the hearts and minds of 21st century Britons. |
