The two-year DipHE – and the first two years of the BA(Hons) – will provide you with the best possible grounding for full-time ministry. The core elements of the course include overviews of the Old and New Testaments, an introduction to Christian Doctrine, a Survey of Church History and Christian Ethics.
In the first four modules that make up the introductions to the Old and New Testaments, we aim to give you a comprehensive biblical theology. A set book accompanies each overview programme to enable you to develop skills of interpretation in a more focused way.
The introduction to Christian Doctrine is also spread over two years. We provide an overview of Church History in the first year and concentrate on the English Reformation in year two.
In the first two years, we also offer you a number of key ministry subjects including communication, preaching, evangelism, pastoral counselling, worship and engagement with different world views.
Because ethics is important in helping you to apply biblical principles to contemporary moral issues, we have made this a compulsory module in the second year. Greek, Hebrew and other options are available in addition to your core subjects. If you are an ordinand and under 30, you are required to take and pass New Testament Greek.
Exact requirements in the DipHE vary according to whether you are an Anglican ordinand or an independent student. This chart (PDF file) shows how the various programme components fit together. |
