| Master of Theology in Theological and Pastoral Studies |
 |
The MTh is an opportunity to specialise in a four-year integrated Masters degree.
Like our other postgraduate courses, the MTh is intentionally integrative: what you learn from interpreting the Bible, systematic theology, church history, and ethics, is tied together. In that way, the classroom is just like the pulpit, or the Friday night youth group, or the challenging questions in a Christianity Explored course.
What do we learn about the doctrine of grace from scripture, from systematic theology, from church history and the other relevant fields? Oak Hill postgraduate modules model the unity and diversity that are proper to Christian theology.
The MTh, like our other postgraduate courses, has your practical ministry in mind. You go deeper in order to explain things more simply and clearly. You aren't left at the end with great theology that won't make sense to anybody in the pew. Many of the modules, therefore, have you practise communicating those insights in such a way that anyone can grasp them.
Essentially, the MTh takes you deeper so that you can explain things more clearly and simply.
In practical terms, the MTh is a two-year programme following on from the two-year Foundation Degree, or an equivalent Diploma in Theology at another college. In the first year there is an opportunity for greater choice as you follow the BA year option, which includes five modules and a short dissertation.
In the second year, you can specialise in depth within an area of your choice. You study two modules, one of which will be at specialist Masters level. You also have the option of writing a 15,000 word dissertation, or the combination of a short dissertation and short project.
The MTh is available to both ordinands and independent students. |
