Oak Hill has a number of modules that are particularly designed to prepare candidates for ordination in the Church of England.
Liturgical formation
The Theology and History of Christian Worship develops a biblical theology of worship and examines liturgical history from patristic to modern times.
Oak Hill has been historically committed to the doctrinal and liturgical inheritance of Prayer Book Anglicanism. However, we are also keen to explore new patterns of congregational engagement (especially through Common Worship) and experiment with contemporary liturgies, evaluating these in the light of our Reformation heritage.
Liturgical formation continues in daily chapel services, as students learn to plan and lead services, preach and benefit from a regular pattern of corporate worship.
Anglican doctrine
The two introductory modules on Christian Doctrine and the second-year module on Reformation Church History consider the development of distinctive Anglican thinking and practice within an ecumenical framework.
Mission in the Modern World is particularly focused on the fulfilment of God's mission in and through local churches. In the third year, candidates can choose modules such as Victorian Church, Spirituality and Pastoral Ministry, to continue their particular preparation for Anglican ministry.
Visiting scholars and local clergy from a range of different traditions are invited to preach in chapel and contribute to modules, bringing a breadth of perspective to the training of ordinands.
Quiet days are held for ordinands each year, led by experienced clergy from the wider Church. This gives a special opportunity for self-reflection and counsel. |
