| Practical skills for pastoral ministry |
 |
As well as the pastoral subjects in the Diploma and Degree courses, Oak Hill offers an innovative adjunct course, which develops practical skills for ministry in the Church of England.
Whether candidates come to us for the two-year Diploma, three-year BA in Theological and Pastoral studies, or the two-year MA in Theology, they are required to take the Certificate in Ministry.
For two hours each week over two years, candidates meet together to develop their devotional life, pastoral and worship skills, and think through goals and strategies for ministry. The Certificate of Ministry is a fully validated professional training course, which integrates well with modules on related topics.
The Certificate of Ministry is led by Vice Principal, the Revd Chris Green, and the Dean of Women Students, the Revd Marian Raikes. Both have wide experience in parish ministry over many years. Visiting lecturers from a range of parish settings and areas of expertise add further insights.
External assessors appointed by the Ministry Division of the Archbishops' Council interview and evaluate all candidates once every year. Oak Hill tutors provide pastoral care and spiritual direction for students on a regular basis.
Ordination training for men and women
Oak Hill trains both men and women for Christian ministry. In practice, this means that we welcome male and female students, who hold a wide variety of views about the ordination of women, to train for every ministry currently exercised in the Church of England.
In this matter, as in other areas, we encourage staff and students to develop attitudes of graciousness, humility and respect towards one another. Men and women from different denominations and traditions, both in the UK and overseas, bring a richness to life in the Oak Hill community.
A wide range of church placements
Situated in North London, we are able to offer a variety of different church placements and chaplaincies, enabling students to gain valuable experience across a broad range of church traditions during their training. Liturgical and pastoral formation continues under the leadership of experienced incumbents.
Alongside these Sunday placements, we provide opportunities for specific week-long ministerial experiences and missions. Every ordinand is required to participate in at least one parish mission while at the college |

| "Training in London for the ordained ministry carries with it many benefits. In particular the wide range of churches representing different traditions in the diocese provide excellent opportunities for parish placements for ordinands as part of their training at Oak Hill College." |
