These courses will help you tap into the wisdom of the Bible and apply it to some of today's biggest issues, including identity, marriage, children and old age. Here's an opportunity for anyone in ministry to take a few days away from the coalface, and then return to it re-energised. You'll be able to apply what scripture teaches on these issues with greater confidence and clarity.

(De)Facing the Image

9-13 July 2012

What does it mean to be human? Are we computers with flesh and blood, high-level machines? Are we animals, more complex than but no different in kind from an amoeba or chimpanzee? So many of the key ethical questions today turn on precisely this question: same-sex marriage, stem-cell research, euthanasia, and many more. What does it mean to be human, and who gets to decide?

Join the Oak Hill faculty for an integrated examination of this crucial question. We’ll start in Scripture, build our theological reflection from there, and then investigate the ethical questions. This is a course at graduate level, designed specifically for people in full-time vocational ministry. Come join us for a chance to step back, reflect, and re-charge for faithful gospel ministry in 21st century Britain.

Understanding the Heart:
An Introduction to Biblical Counselling

9-11 July 2012

"Christians don't need counselling, you just have to believe the Bible."

"I prayed and prayed but God didn't answer. Now I'm going to a secular counsellor for help."

"Just trust God and read this verse. That's biblical counselling."

In the confusion of approaches and attitudes to counselling, the Bible can seem to be lost or used hurtfully. There is, however, a responsible and very powerful way to embed the riches of Scripture in counselling. This course has been designed for leaders at whatever level – lay or vocational – for whom counselling is a significant part of their ministry, but feel they could know more and be better equipped in how to address people's needs.
