The CertHE provides a foundation in the main sub-disciplines of theology: biblical studies, doctrine, history, and practical ministry. A central year-long module is Scripture for Theology & Ministry, which explores the nature and purpose of Scripture, biblical interpretation and the way in which Scripture relates to issues in ministry, theology and to our self-knowledge.
In addition to the careful and sequential ordering of compulsory modules, flexibility with option modules enables students to prepare themselves for a variety of ministries, including pastoral leadership, cross-cultural ministry, youth and children’s ministry and specialisation in a particular theological discipline.
The majority of content for this award is at Level 4 (CertHE level); however, students also have the opportunity to study some optional content at Level 5 (DipHE level) if desired. The CertHE provides a self-contained programme in its own right, as well as serving as the first year of the DipHE and BA (Hons) Theology, and is particularly popular with students who wish to study part time alongside employment (often in a ministry setting) or who wish to explore whether higher education is right for them.
As happens every few years, we are currently developing a new suite of programmes and modules which will be validated in 2024 but won't start until September 2025. Oak Hill will of course retain the ethos and focus that have guided us for many years. If you would like more information, please contact the Admissions Office.
The CertHE can be taken on a full time or part time basis to suit your individual needs. It can be taken part time over two years. For many students, this allows them to remain more rooted in their existing churches, communities, or jobs, alongside training at Oak Hill.
Tuition Fees per year:
£10,350 full time
£4,980 part time based on 60 credits
This programme is quality assured by Middlesex University and you will receive a Middlesex award on successful completion.
Lots of the first year modules are great to consider the essentials of the faith and for seeing what the Bible is and how we need to read it. I am being shaped as a whole character as well as being filled with knowledge.”
