Our newly revalidated postgraduate programmes offer a broader range of option modules, especially in the areas of doctrine, church history and practical ministry, along with modules which are designed to integrate theological disciplines.

The MTheol Theology is an integrated undergraduate Master’s degree, building from a broad foundation of theological, pastoral and cross-cultural studies in the first three years to an area of in-depth specialisation of your choice in the fourth year.

This programme has your ministry in mind. You go deeper in order to explain things more simply and clearly. You are not left at the end with a brilliant theology that won’t make sense to anybody in the pew. That’s why many of the modules cultivate and assess the ability to articulate profound truths in accessible and powerful ways.

Normally, applicants apply for the BA (Hons) and then, during the DipHE year, go through an internal admissions process to enter year 3 of the MTheol programme. For more information about this, please contact the Admissions Office.

Ordinands who are granted direct entry into the third year of the programme will complete a series of weekly placements during their training along with a selection of modules at Levels 4 and 5 which provide specific Anglican training (as approved by the Church of England). These requirements are in addition to the standard components of Years 3 and 4 set out below, and so, over the two years of training, you would be required to over-credit by a total of 20 credits.

Why Oak Hill?

Part time study options

The MTheol can be taken either completely full time or as a combination of part time and full time, to suit your individual needs. You can take it over six years in total: part time for four years followed by full time for two years. For many students, this allows them to remain more rooted in their existing churches, communities, or jobs, alongside training at Oak Hill.

Why part time study?

One of the things I really wanted to do in my fourth year of study is to hone my language skills, because keeping biblical languages going is a real challenge for people in ministry.”
