Our postgraduate programmes offer a broad range of option modules, especially in the areas of doctrine, church history and practical ministry, along with modules which are designed to integrate theological disciplines.

The MA is a rigorous programme that enables you to study theology at a more advanced level, taking an even more specialised approach to the different theological disciplines than is possible in the BA (Hons) programme.

MA students take a compulsory module on hermeneutics and epistemology, which is common to all of our postgraduate programmes, and write either a long dissertation or a short dissertation and a short project. In addition, MA students have the freedom to choose a further 90 credits worth of taught modules. The programme is designed to foster independent research and to allow you to take option modules from across the theological disciplines or to specialise in a particular discipline.

The MA may be taken either full time over 12 months or taken part time over 24 months.

There is provision for Anglican Ordinands who are already Theology graduates to study on the MA part-time, alongside a suite of placements and modules at Level 5 which will provide specific Anglican training. The normal period of registration for an Ordinand on the MA programme is 22 months, comprising four academic semesters and one summer period. The student studies 120 credits worth of Level 7 modules over four academic semesters, together with dissertation preparation. Intensive dissertation work is allowed by the intervening summer period, but completion of the dissertation package is only required by the end of August of the second year. Further details about this pathway are available from the Admissions Office.

As happens every few years, we are currently developing a new suite of programmes and modules which will be validated in 2024 but won't start until September 2025. Oak Hill will of course retain the ethos and focus that have guided us for many years. If you would like more information, please contact the Admissions Office.

The MA can be taken on a full time or part time basis to suit your individual needs. It can be taken part time over 24 months. For many students, this allows them to remain more rooted in their existing churches, communities, or jobs, alongside training at Oak Hill.

“What else do we have that is more precious than the word of God? That’s why I have tried to become the best servant of God’s people I can be, by spending time studying the scriptures, so people can be nourished and fed.”
