Chris Ansberry, PhD

Lecturer in Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew, Director of Postgraduate Studies

Oak Hill is a unique place; its commitment to academic rigor, pastoral care, and personal discipleship with a warm community not only prepares students for a lifetime of ministry in the real world; it also equips them to be the best possible gift to Christ's church."

Chris teaches Old Testament, Biblical Hebrew, and Hermeneutics. Following his conversion, Chris returned to university, where he studied biblical languages. His appreciation for the ways in which knowledge of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek reveal the depths of Scripture prompted him to pursue an MA and PhD at Wheaton College, IL, where he discovered the richness of the Old Testament in general and wisdom literature in particular.

Chris' research focuses on Proverbs and the intersection of philosophy and the wisdom books. His desire is that his students will recognise the varied and dynamic ways in which the Old Testament bears witness to the character and work of our triune God; and his prayer is that his students will be transformed through the Spirit's power so that they might hear the voice of God speaking through the pages of Scripture into our contemporary context.

Chris is married to Carolyn and has four children. He enjoys the arts, a good novel, golf, collegiate sports, cooking, and hanging out with his family.
