Luke grew up in the Philippines and Indonesia before moving to England for his final years of schooling. He studied English Literature at university and after five years of teaching English at a secondary school moved to Oak Hill to train for ordination in the Church of England. Luke served his curacy at a church in Banbury and then in 2015 moved to Chile with his wife Mary and their two children. The family were based in Santiago, the capital of Chile and were involved in the ministry of the Centre for Pastoral Studies - a small Bible College that trains men and women for Christian leadership throughout Chile and beyond.

While teaching at CEP Luke began a doctoral research project that explored the intersection between contemporary Roman Catholicism, Christology and political theology. His dissertation was recently published by SCM Press as ‘Gustavo Gutiérrez and The Liberative Sight of Christ.’ The family returned to the UK from Chile in 2022 and were based in South London where Luke’s time was shared between ministry in a local church and teaching at the Cornhill Training Course.

Luke is really excited to share in the ministry of Oak Hill as it seeks to form leaders who love the Lord Jesus and who are equipped for a lifetime of ministry in which this love overflows to those around
them.

Gustavo Gutiérrez and the Liberative Sight of Christ

How can we speak of God as Father in a world that is inhumane? While many engagements with Gutiérrez's theology centre on such themes as the option for the poor, the role of praxis, or the Kingdom of God, in Gustavo Gutiérrez and the Liberative Sight of Christ Luke Foster explores the underlying theological convictions and commitments within which these concepts cohere. By developing an analysis that is attentive to the unity and coherence of Gutiérrez's thought, Foster resources a critique that is distinctive not only in its pertinence but also in the possibilities that it opens for the development of his project in the future. Innovatively offering a systemic account of Gutiérrez's theology, this book offers both an indispensable overview for those who are engaging with Gutiérrez for the first time and a distinctive analysis for those who are seeking to deepen their understanding of his work.
