Announcement of Part-Time Ordination Training

For many years, Oak Hill College has been training independent students and Church of England Ordinands alongside each other.

Until now, though, only independent students have been able to study part-time.

We’re delighted to say that, from September 2025, Church of England Ordinands will also be able to train part-time at Oak Hill allowing them to continue to live where they are and be part of their current community, alongside studying with other men and women at Oak Hill.

Working towards a Diploma in Higher Education, subject to approval by Durham University, the man or woman will study over four years.

Ordinands split their week between studying with us and getting hands-on experience at a local church or mission placement. This approach gives a solid foundation for ongoing ministry, helping you connect what you're learning with the people and places you're serving.

Throughout this process, each ordinand is supported by a training supervisor who guides them in their local setting. To train for ordination, anyone interested in this path must have a recommendation for training from a Church of England Bishop.

Principal James Robson said:

“Over time we’ve heard of a number of people who’ve been raising up labourers in their local church contexts but who, for a variety of reasons, cannot commit to residential training. So now, being able to give people a chance to have a clear, distinctive, evangelical, part-time training option in London is a great opportunity for them and we pray it will unlock more vocations in the Church of England.”

The part-time pathway is open to any ordinand, whether you are expecting to exercise ministry in a stipendiary, self-supporting, pioneer, incumbent or assistant capacity.

Alongside this new offer, Oak Hill College continues to offer ordination pathways full-time on our DipHE (2 years) BA Hons (3 years) and MA (2 years) programmes.

Applications to study from September 2025 open in December 2024. If you want to find out more get in touch with our admissions team.
