Modern Theologians

Programme module

The twentieth century was a century of crisis in almost every sense. The theologians and movements that emerged have proved to be profoundly influential on the life of the church and its witness to the world.

This module will explore the ways that historical and intellectual turmoil influenced theology and examine the significance of figures such as Schleiermacher and Barth, and movements such as Liberation Theology and Feminist Theology. Students will be equipped to engage thoughtfully with these trends and reflect on the contemporary theological and pastoral landscape in light of them.
