Having exercised ministry in Africa, I wanted to explore more deeply how leadership works within the UK church.
Originally ordained in Nigeria, Folusu is a vicar of three churches in Wolverhampton.
I was trained for ministry in Nigeria and ordained as an Anglican minister in 2012. After ordination, I was involved in church planting and later served as vicar of two churches. In 2020, I relocated to the United Kingdom and began serving as an assistant minister at St Luke’s Church in Wolverhampton, where I remained until June 2025, when I moved into my current role.
As I began ministering in the UK, I became increasingly aware that leadership looks and feels different in different contexts. Having exercised ministry in Africa, I wanted to explore more deeply how leadership works within the UK church—how ministry is led here, and how to engage faithfully and effectively within this context. Studying this programme felt like an important way of integrating my previous experience with the realities of ministry in the UK.
One of the most significant shifts for me has been moving from “working for God” to “working with God.” Leadership is exercised by grace, not by effort alone. That understanding has changed how I lead, how I rest, and how I invite others to share in God’s work.
I would recommend this course very strongly to others, particularly church leaders—both ordained and lay. In a time when there is so much movement of people across countries and cultures, especially missionaries and ministers coming to serve in the UK from other parts of the world, this programme provides a valuable way of learning how to engage with ministry and mission in this context. It helps people integrate, understand the culture, and lead well.
